About Scent Almanac
A maker's guide to scent: what each oil smells like, what it pairs with, how it behaves in wax, soap and diffusers, and how to make things with it safely.
What's here
- 109 scents: essential oils, absolutes and fragrance oils, each rated for candles, wax melts, reed and water diffusers, sprays, cold-process and melt-and-pour soap, and laundry.
- 48 blends built with a proper top, heart and base, and a blend studio for your own.
- 29 step-by-step guides for candles, wax melts, diffusers, sprays, soap, laundry and cleaning, with candle, lye, diffuser and spray calculators built in.
- Reference tables for waxes, wicks, soap oils, bases and cleaning safety, plus ideas and printable labels.
How the numbers work
Every calculation runs in your browser from the same tested formulas: the lye calculator uses standard saponification values (500 g of olive oil at 5% superfat needs 64.1 g of sodium hydroxide), and candle and blend figures follow common supplier practice. They're typical starting points, not guarantees. Follow your supplier's data sheet and IFRA certificate, test-burn every candle, and check every soap recipe with a second lye calculator. See Terms & safety.
