Cautions for candles
  • Oxidizes with age — old oil is more likely to sensitize; store cool and dark (Bergamot, Black Pepper, Fir Needle, Juniper Berry)
  • Caution around pets (especially cats and birds) — don't diffuse in their space (Bergamot, Fir Needle, Juniper Berry)
  • Fades quickly — weak in cold-process soap or at hot throw (Bergamot)

Ideas that use it

A four-candle autumn line
Build a small fall collection that runs from September's orchard to November's cabin, so each candle has a reason to exist.
New-home basket
Everything a new house needs to smell like home in the first week, plus the cleaners to get there.
Crackling wood-wick candles
Wood wicks make a soft fireplace crackle that suits woodsy and cozy blends.
Naming your scents
Good candle names sell a moment, not an ingredient list. Three formulas cover most of them.
