Mandarin
Citrus reticulata
The sweetest, softest citrus — candied tangerine with a faint floral, almost grapey depth. Gentler and less sharp than sweet orange.
Cautions
- Oxidizes with age — old oil is more likely to sensitize; store cool and dark
- Caution around pets (especially cats and birds) — don't diffuse in their space
- Fades quickly — weak in cold-process soap or at hot throw
Mandarin isn't considered phototoxic, but like all citrus it oxidizes with age. Citrus oils are commonly listed as a cat hazard.

Green mandarin oil is pressed from unripe fruit early in the season and red mandarin from fully ripe fruit, so the same tree gives noticeably different oils.
